چکیده

Neutron-multiwave-interference phenomena based on Ramsey’s resonance method of ‘‘separated oscillating fields’’ are studied. A neutron passes through N successive resonant coils (\v052mnB0), which flip the neutron spin with a probability r smaller than 1. These coils are separated by path lengths L over which a homogeneous field B1 is present. Because the spin-flip probability r is smaller than 1, the number of waves for a neutron is doubled after each flipper, so as to produce 2 neutron waves at the end of the setup. The phase difference between any pair of waves is a multiple of a ‘‘phase quantum’’ determined by the line integral of the field difference B12B0 over the length L. Highly regular patterns of the quantum-mechanical probability R in (B1 ,r) space appear due to pair interference between individual waves. Possible applications of this phenomenon, such as a direct measurement of n-particle correlation function, are pointed out.

Neutron wave-interference experiments with adiabatic passage of neutron spin through resonant coils

Neutron resonance spin echo phenomena, produced by resonance coils with adiabatic passage of the neutron spin, are investigated experimentally and theoretically. The adiabatic passage of the neutron spin through a resonance coil requires a specific configuration of the magnetic field. The solution of the Schrödinger equation, obtained for the required configuration, shows the probability of a s...

Non-uniformity of Clinical Head, Head and Neck, and Body Coils in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Introduction Signal intensity uniformity in a magnetic resonance (MR) image indicates how well the MR imaging (MRI) system represents an object. One of the major sources of image non-uniformity in high-field MRI scanners is inhomogeneity of radio-frequency coil. The aim of this study was to investigate non-uniformity in head, head and neck, and body coils and compare the obtained results to det...

بررسی امکان استفاده از چشمه های نوترونی رادیوایزوتوپی در نوترون درمانی با بور

Background : Performing successful BNCT experiments needs a suitable neutron source. Important factors of the neutron beam are flux and energy that are very important in the selection of neutron source. In most centers that use this method for treatment, reactor is a neutron source, which according to characteristics of the reactor appropriated neutrons are very high. High cost of constructin...

Signal-to-noise ratio comparison between surface coils and implanted coils.

The signal-to-noise ration (SNR) from implanted coils is widely known to be superior to that from surface coils. This article addresses the quantitative aspects of this improvement by explicitly evaluating the magnetic vector potential in a conducting medium of finite extent for both implanted and surface coils. The predictions of the model are tested with actual image data from spin warp exper...

Birdcage volume coils and magnetic resonance imaging: a simple experiment for students

Background This article explains some simple experiments that can be used in undergraduate or graduate physics or biomedical engineering laboratory classes to learn how birdcage volume radiofrequency (RF) coils and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) work. For a clear picture, and to do any quantitative MRI analysis, acquiring images with a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is required. With a give...
